- I often stay here while working or avoiding snow.
- Half way between Green Valley Lake and Big Bear Lake on 2N13. Fun loop, ride bus or take PCT back.
- Pancakes in the morning and hot bread at night :-)
- Treating water or warming a drink in a pinch. OK in coals but cannot touch any metal. 3/4 full water will expand while heating.
- Under the heading of using trash in a pinch.
- This is a quick and easy way to cook. I use esbit fire bricks for the fuel in ristricted areas.
- Tea, hot chocolate, freeze dried meals.
- The Oven in action.
- Baking Bread... one of my favorites! This took an hour, 45 minutes of baking.
- This does a great job on really nasty water. Mix 1/2 sand 1/2 charcoal. Run a quart thru to clean. Fill bottle 3/4 then bring to rolling boil for one minute. Put a chunk of charcoal (no white ash) and a pinch of Baking soda in with boiling water. Let settle/cool. Pour or drink slowly, leave sediment if any at bottom.
- Makes a great hot shower even in cold weather. Propane burner or slot trench with fire. $ 20.00 tent and $100.00 RV pump. Pouring water over head a quart at a time from pot works good too.
- Went to the Lake Morena BBQ & hiked section (A) - Campo to Warner Springs.
- Sections (B) and (C) are my favorites in Southern California. Hwy. 243 up to Idyllwild and over to the Aerial Tramway then Fuller ridge to Cinco Poses Spring.
- Did some hiking with Laurence up by Idyllwild. Always glad to see Laurence, he knows alot about the outdoors and does everything he can to help out hikers.
- I like to hike from Crab Flat to Green Valley Lake, over to Big Bear then loop back. Four choices, 2N13, 3N16, PCT, the bus down Hwy. 18 to GVL road or just a six mile loop over to the GVL store and back :)
- Like to take the Cougar Crest Trail down from the PCT to the Big Bear Discovery Center. I get water there then walk over to the lake. It`s a couple hour hike East on the bike path to Subway and the Grocery store. Can take the bus back to Green Valley Lake road from there. Or not.
- Good spot to check Emails and update site.
- North East of San Gorgonio Mnt. I wonder what it would cost to get rescued? Ya may be better off in the long run to stay lost.
- West Spring at Mission Springs Campground. South East of Big bear, CA. and Hwy. 38 Where PCT crosses 1N05
- East Spring at Mission Springs Campground. Think this is my favorite spring. N 34 14 39.5 W 117 03 51.0 Then they all seem prety good if your out of water :)
- Contemplating a hike from Crab Flat Campground, South on PCT to Mission Springs Campground, Norht on 1N05 to Fish Creek Trail, South to 1W07, Vivian Creek Trail into Forest Falls. Then wing it / road walk to the Perris Airport.
- If I do hike down to Perris then this is the bus route back up the mountain. Could wonder around the Inland Empire four hours... or ride the bus around the long way. Humm... Think I`ll catch the 6:45am or see a movie.
