Thursday 10 July 2008
Troutdale, Oregon.
Spent the night on the North edge of Timothy Lake at a great hike in campsite. Went swimming Monday and the water was perfict! Rode the dumpster bike back to Government Camp after noon and camped on the Glade trail close to town. Went West on Hwy. 26 Tuesday to Mirror Lake.
I could tell it was a cool place by all the vehicles at the trailhead.
Hiked up to the Lake and set up camp then walked up to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain.
Kids where swimming and running all over the place but after sunset I was the only one at the Lake.
Slept in and thought about staying another day but decided to keep exploring. Had fun riding the bike down the mountain to some place around Brightwood.
Then it was up hill and hot with little shade and even less shoulder to walk/ride. As I was re thinking the dumpster bike plan KJ pulled up along side and offered a ride :)
She drove me all the way to Portland! Thank You KJ!!
Today I will try to upload pictures to the site and wash clothes and such then head back out.
It`s all good,

Monday 30 June, Rode bus from Great Meadow @ Hwy. 140 (Lake of the Woods) to Klamath Falls, OR. Rode train up to Portland Tuesday then city bus to Troutdale.
Purchased an all day rail pass on Wesnday and went back to Portland to explore, re supply and use internet to upload pictures to the site.
Thursday 3 July I rode the Breeze bus up to Government Camp then hiked up the Glade trail to Timberline lodge.
Spent the night on the PCT at six thousand feet. Lots of snow on the ground, high winds, light rain and huge lightning bolts. Checked out the lodge July 4, Very, Very expensive! $4.50 for fries and a coke NO REFILLS!
Hiked the Glade Trail back to Government Camp then a short walk down to Still Creek Campground. The camp is in the shade of the mountain and the snow was two feet deep every where so headed over to Trillium Lake Campground. Walked around the lake then talked with the campground host. No $2.00 hike-N-bike just sixteen dollar sites so I spent the night at the old airstrip a mile or so away.
Light rain Saturday morning but it made for easy hiking. Walked South East out Hwy. 26 to the PCT then South on the trail to Little Crater Lake by 3:30pm. Camped early so I could explore the area. No snow on the ground and few mosquito`s from Hwy. 26 to Little Crater Lake :)
Sunday 6 July. Visited the Clackamas Ranger Station and learned that Olallie Lake Campground is closed. The Camp is covered in snow and the Store operator abandoned thier lease. This is a real problem for hikers. If you resupply @ the Big Lake Youth Camp it is about 105 miles to Government Camp.
I found a bike at the Clackamas Lake Campground dumpster! The derailer was broken but every thing else works good. Now it is a three speed. Rode it around Lake Timothy today. Tomorrow I`ll try to ride it back to Gov. Camp.
It`s all good,

Lake of the Woods, Oregon.
Sunday 29 June 2008.
Took the Stage bus up to Lake of the Woods on the 25th. Found a great camp site out in the woods 1/4 mile from the resort. Hiked up to Fourmile Lake on the 26th only to find the trail obscured by snow and huge swarms of mosquito`s. Some of these critters were able to ignore DEET and could bite through clothing if I stood still.
The locals tell me that the snow and mosquito`s are a real concern from Fourmile Lake to just past Diamond Lake.
Camped at Fourmile Lake and hiked back to LOW on the 27th.
Hiked over to Fish Lake and back on the 28th. That was a fun hike. Nine miles over, had lunch and a $1.00 shower, then nine back.
Just hanging around the Resort today trying to come up with a good plan. I rarely stick to the plan but there fun to make anyway.
Thinking about taking the train up to Portland Oregon? ...
